Welcome to Maps Marks and Milestones.
You clicked on the About MMM page. Excellent!
This site is dedicated to the proposition that we live in a bold, new world where everyone can have a voice. This is my voice. Part of it, anyway. The map lover’s part!
Here I, Jim Swift, pursue my intellectual fancy and publish articles about subjects which are interesting to me. Historical maps and the human story behind them. The wild world of surveying, culture and human boundaries. I publish occasionally at my convenience, gradually adding to a mildly coherent body of knowledge. I try not to be boring.
The overarching theme of the site is Geography and Humanity. The more specific themes relate to maps and surveying. Who made what maps when? How were various human boundary lines created? Why? Where are they? Can we seem them? What is the real human story behind that map?
These are interesting questions to me. Perhaps they are interesting to you as well. If so, do please scroll through the site.
Thanks again for showing enough interest to read this page.
